History of Mothers Day in the UK
In the UK Mothers Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent. This means that for 2007, Mothers Day will be celebrated on the 18th of March 2007.
Many countries have a set day for Mothers Day, but the UK celebrates this on the fourth Sunday of Lent. The tradition behind this was local villagers would go to visit their "mother church" or cathedral as to their nearest church. Children at the time were forced to work by there parents and many had to leave home. The employers would allow a weekend holiday at this time so children could meet their parents again. Some would allow the children to bake cakes or flowers as a token of gratitude.
